Bliss Pub

07, Fife Road, Colombo 05.

A dodgy yet nice little bar on Fife Road.

If there are fifty shades of dodgy bars, Bliss pub would be a lighter shade of it. It is an alright place to hang out with a friend over a beer and a quick snack. Mains aren’t terrible either, but the prices are a bit steep.

Food & Drinks

They have a decent collection of spirits and local beers. The food menu is, however, a bit limited. We ordered two large Lion Lagares (Rs. 450 each), a portion of Devilled Sausages (Rs.750), Potato Wedges (Rs. 550) and a Mixed  Rice (Rs. 1400).

The chef has done the complete justice to the usual sausages that you’d get from the kadey down your street. Soaked in a cocktail of sauces, chili flakes, and other spices, it made for a good tapa to go with your beer. Still, would I pay Rs. 750 for a plate of ordinary sausages? Nah, I don't think so.

Coated in a well seasoned thin batter, the potato wedges were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The ketchup dipping wasn’t half bad either (probably MD or Kist).

At Rs. 1400, you would expect an extravaganza of a fried rice. But what we got was a total disappointment. To start with, the “mix” didn’t include flesh of any terrestrial creature. The only meats we found in the rice were chewy chunks of cuttlefish and a few alright prawns. The rice itself wasn’t too oily or overcooked, while the chili paste was piping hot. I wouldn’t recommend the chili paste unless you are a Chili Pepper Challenge contestant or something.

We went there around 2 pm on a weekday and the whole place was deserted and silent. But it could get noisy in the evening and also smoky. They've Shisha starting from Rs. 2500 and they don’t have the usual 2-5 pm curfew - you can get liquor throughout the day.

Our waiter was attentive and friendly, but when asked for recommendations, he told that he would recommend everything on the menu. Ahem.

We weren't really happy about their food. But, if you are looking to sip a cool beer at an odd hour in the afternoon or a proper chill down in the evening with Shisha and music, this place won’t disappoint you.

Snacks are tasty. But we won't really recommend their mains.
